Colorfull custom made square pillows children's drawing wine red

Whimsical, Colorful and full of child imagination

A new week has started and I’ll show you a bit more what the new KusKatStudio has been up.  Last June I have been making these colourful custom made pillows.  A good friend of mine wanted to give a special gift for a first communion.  We let the three girls of the family make their own drawing and I transferred them to square pillows.  No KusKat figures this time, but imaginative, playful and colourful children’s imagination.

*

First I had to print the drawings and make them in little pieces of appliqué.  For making the little appliqué pieces I use some adhesive iron on paper.  It is a paper that is strong enough to hold its shape while turning the fabric edges, and afterwards you can take away the paper leaving the piece with the iron on residue.  What comes in handy for ironing the piece in place before sewing.

*

And as with the most of my products, the used fabrics are 100% cotton textile and all prewashed before assembling the pillows, to avoid any color bleeding when they get washed later on.

After the piecing process comes threat painting to transfer the children’s drawing in thread and put the applique pieces in place.  I used the technique of free motion machine embroidery, a embroidery way I came to love allot these last years.  On the back of the wine red base fabric I put some backing to make it more easier to embroider on it, still a embroidery hope was needed.  And sometimes, the back looks much better …

And here you have the finished throw pillows.  I like it you can put the drawings of your little ones around in the house, on the beds, put them in the couches, lay them on chairs,…

Pillow fight anyone?

I would be thrilled to make more of these square throw pillows with children’s drawings on top, so if you have a little girl or boy in the house and there creative scribbles and are interested, please contact me here

And at last but not least a picture of another throw pillow out of velvet cotton fabric I made for a little girl.  She had made a wonderful drawing with dogs and bicycles and a airplane,…. for a custom made twin quilt (I will share that later on with you).  And with that comes a soft and cosy decorative pillow.  I loved doing these little dogs!
